Filigree, an emblematic product of traditional artisanal goldsmithing, has in Portugal a fertile territory with an ancient history, especially centered in two areas of the northern region of the country, Gondomar and Póvoa de Lanhoso, territories where it was established and developed early on and from where it spread to other locations in the country and abroad. These are the two main centers of excellence for Portuguese Filigree production. The two Municipalities have joined together with the sole purpose of valuing the artisanal filigree technique, common to both territories, defending their producers and protecting artisanal production from industrial imitations that mislead consumers and devalue the art.
